3rd January - Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island

Well we headed to the Statue of Liberty today. We decided to test out the subway system and found it quite easy, though I think the couple of years of practice in London helped us! To get to the Statue you need to book a ferry to Liberty Island. Boy was it cold!!! Thank God I'd pre booked our tickets so we were not in the cold too long. No words can describe this place at all .... Pretty amazing! We also got the audio tour for the Island so we could hear the history as we were wandering around. Here's some pictures, like I said ... No words necessary....

On the island we also saw something which was pretty cool 'The Liberty Bike' which was custom made by Orange County Choppers. It was enclosed in a special glass case there. We had actually watched this episode together at home so to see it in real life was pretty cool.

After a hot chocolate/coffee and some lunch to warm us up we headed to the ferry again.

This time to Ellis Island. Ellis Island was the gateway to immigration in the United States - again the audio tour was fantastic and I think we spent more time in the museum there than we did on Liberty Island. The Museum also had a special Alcatraz exhibit which was good and interesting, especially because we will be heading there in a couple of weeks.

After another ferry home. We took a cold walk (def. coldest day yet) from Battery Park to Wall Street and the financial district. We found this along the way ... CASTLE CLINTON!

And Wall Street

We then hopped back into the subway our hotel ... We dropped our things off and headed in towards Times Square for dinner. Wasn't a late one, though thankfully on the way home we found a pharmacy and picked up some cold and flu tabs so all should get better now! Will make sure I share some exciting scrappy news by the end of today Take care xxx - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone
